The new 6.6-liter GM Duramax L5P V-8 turbodiesel is expected under the hood, as well as the Allison 1000 automatic transmission. A gasoline engine is not likely, unlike the V-8 large-block 8, 1 liter offered in Kodiak and TopKick trucks in the 2000s.
Chris Baker caught a few shots of this prototype that appears to be within the stability control system and other tests. The stabilizer holes on the bumper plate and the rolling cage in the rear suggest that the truck may have made a slalom course recently. There is a large striking grille at the front with Silverado-based headlamps based on Silverado. The hood of 2019 Chevy Kodiak seems to be flatter than earlier, while the mirrors and door handles seem to be just an intermediate solution as the production model arrives.
