2022 Audi Q5 Specs, Interior, Changes, & Pictures. The second generation of the Q5 luxury crossover SUV was introduced in 2018. After only two years, we don’t expect big changes in this segment. Audi focuses on other things, such as truck or the new SUV. Still, the flagship vehicle and the best-seller model is still of huge importance for the entire lineup. Changes on the upcoming 2022 Audi Q5 might be modes, but any update is welcome. Restyling will happen in 2022 or 2023, as a part of the mid-cycle refresh. The Interior is about to offer a few new features.
Well, the current version did not bring any significant cosmetic change. The carmaker left a drivetrain for the first season after the premiere. Based on the E-Tron platform, the Q5 received the PHEV system. Now, there are three different setups available. The 2022 Audi SQ5 is the fourth choice. The performance-oriented model is going to bring something new to the compact luxury segment. It is still questionable if the German manufacturer is going after a 3.0 or 4.0 displacement.
Under the bonnet of the 2022 Audi Q5 will be a 2.0-liter turbocharged unit. Engineers managed to squeeze 248 hp and 273 lb-ft of torque. This is the same output as its rivals are delivering, so you won’t find any differences there. The ride is smooth thanks to a Tiptronic gearbox. A seven-speed transmission is sending power to all-wheels, popular Quattro system. The compact crossover is not going to draw your attention with a superb fuel economy, which is only 25 mpg combined.
Current SQ5 is packing the small SUV with a V6 engine. A 3.0-liter displacement is good for 350 hp and 370 lb-ft of torque. This is enough to compete with the M40i version of the BMW X3. The Bavarian carmaker is a step ahead with the X3M model that crunches 500 hp and 442 lb-ft. The new SQ, or even possibly the RS Q5 could match this thanks to a 4.0-liter powerplant. It seems to be too big for the compact model, but Audi needs to do something about the high-output version. An eight-speed power router replaces a seven-pace transmission.
2022 Audi Q5 PHEV Model
The latest update is going to be carried over for the next editions of the luxury crossover. The 2022 Audi Q5 plug-in hybrid is using the standard 2.0 turbo system and upgrades it with a 105 kWh motor. Combined, the system cracks out 350 ponies and 330 lb-ft of torque. What is more important, the crossover gains extra range, reaching 65 MPGe properly equipped. Plus, you can ride the crossover by using the electric battery only. You won’t get too far, but 20 miles is a fair deal for the luxury model. In the future, we can expect an all-electric E-Tron crossover. According to the first reports, this kind of vehicle will return 250-300 miles in a single charge.
Future: Restyling and Interior Update
Since the 2022 Audi Q5 is coming mostly unchanged, the next edition will present more upgrades. We will see the restyling of the crossover with new features. Some sources reported that the first test mules are on the street, but there are no spy photos to confirm these claims. On the other hand, we can expect more upgrades to the interior. Currently, there are three trim levels, and the upcoming redesign will also revisit the lineup in 2022. Due to the COVID-19 outburst, we could see a delay in the premiere.
When Will 2022 Audi Q5 Be Available?
In the first months of next year, the 2022 Audi Q5 will be at dealerships. The full lineup is coming available for sale. Before that, depending on the situation with coronavirus, we could see the premiere at some car show. Well, for now, all the happenings are postponed (NY Auto Show is moved for October). The price of the base version is still under $45,000 and goes up depending on the trim level. The SQ5 will be top of the range version and its MSRP could reach $70,000. That means the performance-tuned unit will take on the BMW X3M and Mercedes GLC AMG.
