Bugatti Chiron Interior

The Bugatti Chiron is being marketed as the next big thing in the world of supercars. With a mind-boggling 8 liters, a W16 engine with a rated output of nearly 1500 horsepower and 1180-plus pound-feet of torque, the Bugatti Chiron is projected to be the fastest street-legal production car. The said distinction is owned by its predecessor the Bugatti Veyron, which achieved 257.87 mph in 2010.

Bugatti has already christened the Bugatti as the most powerful, most luxurious, and most exclusive supercar in the word. It will only be a matter of time when it officially is named the fastest supercar in history.

Bugatti Chiron History

The Bugatti Chiron is named after Louis Chiron, a factory driver for the company in the European Championship in the ’30s. In 1999, he was also the inspiration for an 18/3 Chiron concept car.

Bugatti Chiron Super Car

The Bugatti Chiron was first seen by the racing public during the 2016 Geneva Motor Show. Bugatti Automobiles president Wolfgang Durheimer claims that the Bugatti Chiron will shatter several speed records known to man, most notably the fastest street-legal production car.

Make no mistake about it– the Bugatti Chiron is not a hybrid car unlike some of its competitors like the Porsche 918, McLaren P1 and the LaFerrari. It uses fossil fuels. And similar to its predecessor, it deploys power coming from its engine through all four wheels.

Durheimer explains that if Bugatti made the Chiron a hybrid, it would have made the car heavier. And that would have an effect on Chiron’s speed. Instead, the car maker increased the car’s power by 25 percent while improved its aerodynamics and road holding.

Bugatti Chiron Top Speed

With that engine powering this supercar, the Bugatti Chiron will be able to hit 62 miles an hour from a standing start in less than 2.5 seconds. Yes, you read that right– less than 2.5 seconds. Suffice to say, the Bugatti Chiron will be able to zoom to 60 miles an hour faster than you can tie your shoes.

The Chiron can sprint to 124 miles an hour in less than 6.5 seconds. It would be at a speed of 186 miles an hour in less than 13.6 seconds.

We know that these are all mind-boggling numbers, but let’s put things in perspective.

Another supercar, the Lamborghini Centenario, needs around 24 seconds to reach 186 miles an hour. The Chiron only does that in 13 seconds. And the Bugatti sports car is up to 3 seconds faster than the McLaren P1.

Comparing it to its predecessor, the Veyron SuperSport, the Bugatti Chiron is a second quicker.

Of course, motorists may worry that the Chiron would be too fast for them. Bugatti limited the Chiron to a top speed of 261 miles an hour for safety reasons. Still, that is around 3 miles per hour faster than the record set by the Bugatti Veyron which hit 257.87 miles an hour.

Bugatti expects the Chiron to set the record at around 270 miles an hour using a specially developed Michelin.

There are also reports that the Bugatti Chiron can hit 286 miles an hour on the race track.

With such great power comes the need for a superior braking system. Bugatti fitted the Chiron with front and rear discs that are 20mm larger and 2mm thicker. Made from carbon-silicon carbide, the rear and front discs are lighter and more resistant to fade.

Bugatti Chiron Engine

This supercar is powered by a quad turbo, 8-liter W-16 engine. The said powertrain produces a mind-boggling 1479 horsepower and 1180 pound-feet of torque. If we are to compare it to its predecessor, it is around 300 horsepower and 74-pound-feet of torque better than the Veyron SuperSport.

Bugatti Chiron Interior

As you would expect from a Bugatti car, the Chiron has a very awe-inspiring interior. The instrument cluster is also very simple with a modern touch.

The steering wheel has blue buttons, something that wasn’t featured on the Veyron. The seats are also very comfortable as you would expect from a supercar. It also comes with the premium, state of the art sound system.

Bugatti Chiron Exterior

The Bugatti Chiron sports a new carbon fiber monocoque with a carbon-fiber rear subframe. This enables it to be around 8 kilos lighter compared to its predecessor, the Veyron.

Unlike the Veyron which has a rounded rump, the Chiron has a sharply truncated rear end. There’s a unique single light bar that divides a swath of mesh.

It has quad LED headlights that double as intakes. These funnel air towards the front brakes.

The Chiron also has a sweeping, C-shaped curve that defines its profile. This “Bugatti” line is reminiscent of classic models like the Type 57.

Bugatti Chiron Price

How much would you have to shell out to own what will soon be the fastest car on the face of the planet?

As of March this year, pricing for the Chiron is around 2.4 million Euros, which can be converted to around $2.6 million. Up to this day, there are no specific pricing for the US market.

There will only be 500 units of Bugatti Chiron to be produced, which are 50 more than its predecessor. More than 200 units have been reserved. Let’s just say that people who have reserved for one are really lucky.

The Bugatti Chiron has set the bar as far as supercars are concerned.
